SPOC Welcomes Orthopedic Appliances of Central New York into the Family
We’re excited to share big news—Syracuse Prosthetic & Orthotic Center (SPOC) has officially acquired Orthopedic Appliances of Central New York, bringing together two of Central New York’s most trusted names in prosthetic and orthotic care under one roof.
This partnership is more than a business decision—it’s a union built on shared values, decades of experience, and a commitment to patient-first care. SPOC and Orthopedic Appliances have long histories in the community as independent, locally owned providers. As one team, we’re better equipped to help our patients regain mobility, independence, and confidence.
Why This Matters for Our Patients
We know great care comes from collaboration, compassion, and a deep understanding of each individual’s needs. By combining our strengths, patients will benefit from:
A wider range of expertise and perspectives
Greater support for complex or unique cases
More personalized care, right from the start
Faster, smoother referrals within one full-service team
With more than 120 years of combined clinical experience, our team combines diverse knowledge, innovative problem-solving, and a true dedication to treating the whole person—not just the condition.
A Shared Philosophy of Care
For Rich Vangorder, owner of Orthopedic Appliances, the decision to join SPOC was easy.
“I’ve always felt like I get paid to volunteer to help people,” he says. “Joining forces with others who feel the same way about care is fantastic.”
That shared sense of purpose is what makes this merger so meaningful. As Rich put it, the move allows us to grow, learn from each other, and provide even more specialized care, without losing the personal, community-driven approach our patients have always known.
What to Expect During the Transition
Orthopedic Appliances will continue to serve patients from its Fayette Street location while SPOC will soon start renovations to add 2,000 additional square feet to its existing facility. Eventually, both teams will operate under one roof, enhancing collaboration and continuity of care, all with no disruption to your appointments or providers.
“This is about staying independent and strengthening our ability to serve our neighbors,” says SPOC owner Jeff Tyo. “We’re building on what makes both of us great—our people, our experience, and our dedication to putting patients first.”
